Library cards are required to check out any library materials. There is a $5.00 fee for replacement cards.
To obtain a resident library card you must live, work, or own property in Lauderdale County and present a current ID: a state issued ID (Driver’s License) with name and current Lauderdale County address.
New patrons must present proof of current address, e.g. any utility bill, voter registration card, or proof that they work within Lauderdale County. The document must have the same name and address as the first ID.
Children must be six (6) years old to obtain their own library card. A parent’s or legal guardian’s signature is required. Legal guardians must provide proof of guardianship.
A non-resident card, issued for one year increments, is available to those not meeting resident library card requirements for a non-refundable fee of $5.00 per year. Valid identification and proof of address is required.
For short-term visitors to Lauderdale County, temporary library cards are available which require a refundable $10.00 fee. This fee is refunded when the items borrowed from the library are returned in satisfactory condition. There are limitations on the number of items which can be checked out with temporary cards. Ask Circulation staff for specific information.
Renewing /Replace a Card:
Library Cards are valid for three (3) years. To renew a card simply show your ID (Driver’s License) in order to have it renewed. To replace a lost card simply show your ID (Driver’s License) to Circulation staff. Replacement cards cost $5.00.
Physical Library cards are required to check out any library materials at front desk or use computers.
Certain items do require a refundable deposit to be made in order to be checked out, such as the GED and ASVAB books, each requiring a $20.00 deposit.
The Library’s catalog is available at: https://meridianlauderdale.biblionix.com/catalog/. Patrons may place holds, renew books and much more. A personal password must be set up to access Patron Account and can be set up with the Circulation staff.
The library currently houses seventeen (17) public access computers with internet access. Meridian and Lauderdale County residents must have a valid library card to use a computer. Patrons and visitors may obtain guest passes for computer usage at the Reference Desk. Wireless access is available in the Library. Prints are $0.25 per page. Copies are black and white only.
Most library books may be renewed twice, if no hold has been placed on the item, for extended checkout in three ways: These are 1) by visiting the library with the item, or 2) by telephone, or 3) accessing your account thru the online catalog. The telephone number for book renewal is 601-693-6771. Some children’s books and request (on hold) books can not be renewed. DVD’s cannot be renewed. You may return the DVD, and if not on hold, may check it out again.
Reserves may be placed on items which are checked out in three ways. These are 1) in person at the library, or 2) by telephone, or 3) thru the online catalog. Patrons placing reserves will be notified by telephone when the items requested are available for pickup. DVD’s may not be reserved. Reserves are held for three (3) days.
The library offers an after hours book-only drop on its west-side (26th Street) wall of the library. There are three (3) additional drop box sites. These are located at:

Winn-Dixie – Hwy 39
All library materials may be deposited in these remote locations.
This free service allows the Meridian-Lauderdale County Public Library to borrow and loan printed materials with other libraries statewide and nationwide. Please call our ILL Services at 601-693-6771 ext. 227 for further information.
Fax Services are available through the Circulation department. The cost associated with this service is $1.00 for each page. The library’s Fax number is 601-486-2260.
The library accepts debit and credit cards for payment. There is a minimum of $2.00 per transaction.
The Children’s Department houses an excellent collection of children’s materials which support the reading needs of children ranging in age from birth through grades six. In addition the department offers a wide array of programming opportunities through out the year. Also, a 24 hour Storyline services is available by calling 601-482-4444.
The Meridian-Lauderdale County Public Library houses a genealogy collection. Patrons must first sign in at the Reference Desk before using the collections, which contains a broad array of genealogy books for most of the Southern States, along with an excellent family history section.
The library has one (1) copier for public use at a cost of $0.10 per letter size. Color copies are also available at a cost of $.25 per page.
