Library cards are required to check out any library materials. There is a $5 fee for replacement cards.
To obtain a resident library card you must live, work, or own property in Lauderdale County and present a current ID: a state issued ID with name and current address. (Driver’s License)
If your Driver’s License does not have your current address you must present an additional ID with your current address. Examples are: printed checks, voter registration card, gun permit, utility bill, or canceled mail.
Children must be six (6) years old to obtain their own library card. A parent’s or legal guardian’s signature is required.
3. Non-Resident Card
A non-resident card, issued for one year increments, is available to those not meeting resident library card requirements for a non-refundable fee of $15 per year. Proper identification and proof of address is required.
For short-term visitors to Lauderdale County, temporary library cards are available which require a refundable $100 fee. This fee is refunded when the items borrowed from the library are returned in satisfactory condition. There are limitations on the number of items which can be checked out with temporary cards. Ask Circulation staff for specific information.
Renewing an Expired Card:
If your library card has expired simply show your state issued ID (driver’s license) in order to have it renewed.
Certain items do require a refundable deposit to be made in order to be checked out. Examples include GED and ASVAB test books, each requiring a $30 deposit.
Most library books may be renewed for extended time periods in two ways. These are 1) by visiting the library with the item, or 2) by telephone. The telephone number for book renewal is 693-6771 ext. 223. Some children’s books and request (on hold) books can not be renewed. Videocassette tapes and DVD’s can not be renewed.
Reserves may be placed on items which are checked out in two ways. These are 1) in person at the library, or 2) by telephone. Patrons placing reserves will be notified by telephone when the items requested are available for pickup. Videocassette tapes and DVD’s may not be reserved and are available on a first-come, first-served, first-go basis only.
The library offers an after hours book-only drop on its west-side (26th Street) wall. It is asked that no audiovisuals be deposited in this drop in an effort to limit damage. There are four (4) additional drop box sites. These are located at:
Winn Dixie on Highway 39 North,
Cash Savers on North Frontage Road
Vowell’s Market on North Hills Street
Piggly Wiggly in Collinsville
All library materials may be deposited in these remote drops.
